The present
owner purchased this scout in April 1997 off a renowned Indian collector and
restorer. It was in good running condition with registration and warrant of
fitness, The bike was registered in 1976 as a 1926 but engine BG 1108 and
sheet metal consolidate it as 1927. Since owning it Mike has had the engine
recently overhauled, including new pistons, rings, new valve guides, new
valves, new mains and big ends.
The steering head bearings have been converted to Timken tapers and the
front end re-bushed and bell crank pins replaced. Mike a member of the
Indian owners register, the Vintage car club and Hawkes Bay classic
motorcycle club has used it reasonably regularly since, stating it is
extremely reliable, starting first or second kick.
It is very original and correct and while it has a period horn it
is not a klaxon. The clincher rims have been changed to drop center using
741 scout rims, a common and safe conversion.
No, its not anywhere near showroom perfect, the paint and cosmetic
condition exhumes character, indicating its used and not a museum piece. It
is a very sound machine, great mechanically.
The choice is to use it as is, or give it a cosmetic facelift is yours.
(Note - the dealer shield on the rear guard is not going with the
motorcycle) |
